From the Legacy of Japonism to the Present Day

In the latter half of the 19th century, Japanese ukiyo-e and crafts traveled to Europe, making a strong impression on artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Degas. This fervor was called "Japonism," and Japanese aesthetics permeated painting, architecture, fashion, and even everyday items.

More than 150 years have passed since then, and Japan's presence in the world has changed. While anime and manga are widely known as "Cool Japan," the charm of Japan's unique traditional culture and art, such as ukiyo-e, tea ceremony, and artisan craftsmanship, is not fully conveyed to its deeper essence.

JAPONISM is a brand born from the desire to once again deliver the charm of Japan to modern consumers, just as 19th-century Europe was captivated by Japanese beauty.

Why Fragrance?

Scent is a sense directly connected to memory and emotion. Who hasn't experienced a sudden waft of scent bringing back a particular day and place?

In Japan, the art of incense burning (kodo) and the sensibility of finding the changing seasons in flowers and plants have long been alive. Conveying beauty through the unseen—scent is one such uniquely Japanese expression.

JAPONISM aims to translate and deliver this sensibility into modern life. A moment of washing hands, a moment in the bath, a moment of freshening a room. In these everyday moments, a scene from somewhere in Japan gently emerges.

Through six scents, we infuse Japanese sensibility into modern living.

Joint Development with Omoto Corporation, Fukuoka

All soaps were jointly developed with Omoto Corporation, a soap OEM in Fukuoka City, over a year, with meticulous attention to design, scent, and ingredients. Each one is finished by hand by artisans.

Fermented rice bran extract was chosen as a common ingredient because rice bran has been a material closely associated with Japanese life since ancient times. It has a history of being used as "nuka-bukuro" (rice bran bags) instead of soap during the Edo period and is known for being rich in vitamin E and antioxidants.

The packaging design also incorporates Japanese aesthetics. The family crest represents rice ears, symbolizing rice bran, and the cycle and sustainability. The transparent part at the bottom of the product expresses the tranquility of Zen and the transparency of the sea surrounding the Japanese archipelago.
